Day 1: 100% PURE New Zealand                                   

Well, the time has now come! School’s out for the holidays and your tour of New Zealand is about to begin. I hope that you are ready and excited! Curious Kiwi certainly is – he can’t wait to start the Great Kiwi Road Trip! Before you all hit the road, let’s take a minute to review some key facts about New Zealand.

Activity 1:  

Go to the Tourism New Zealand website and click on the ‘Facts - New Zealand People’ tab. Read about the people of New Zealand and then choose three interesting facts to post on your blog. The facts must be written in your own words. Do not simply copy and paste the facts from the website☺.

Three Facts:

> As known from years before to this living day the Maori culture has and is the rooted part of New Zealand’s original and national identity.

> The sport Rugby is New Zealand’s national sport. Rugby football is also known as the most popular sport in the whole of New Zealand.

> Out of the 4.4 million New Zealanders - commonly known as Kiwis, roughly 69% are European, 14.6% are native Maori, 9.2% Asian and 6.9%  are non- Maori Pacific Islanders.

Activity 2:

Your tour of New Zealand is going to start right here in Auckland. Watch the Tourist video for Auckland to learn about the awesome things that you can see and do in the city. Once you’ve finished, choose your favourite five activities from the video and list them on your blog.  

My Five Favourite Activities:

> Going to Piha Beach and seeing the Lions Rock where it is a famous spot with experienced surfers.

> The Auckland War Memorial Museum with treasures of Aotearoa New Zealand with lots of culture mainly including the Maori culture and language.

> The Auckland Zoo that children and visitors would very much enjoy with animals of the African Savannah.

> Rainbow’s End where people can enjoy fun exciting rides.

> The Auckland Sky Tower where people can base jump of the tower.

Extra > The view from Mt Eden before sunset when seeing the amazing sights involving some of the cities most beautiful finest buildings.

Bonus Activity:

Now it’s time to start your tour! Curious Kiwi decides to start by taking you on a short tour through downtown Auckland. You stop at the Sky Tower, the tallest building in all of New Zealand. When you look up, you see a huge New Zealand flag on the top of the tower. This flag was created back in 1902. That makes the New Zealand flag 115 years old!

Last year, the Prime Minister of New Zealand suggested that we should replace the flag with a new, updated design. He invited everyone in New Zealand to come up with their own flag design and submit it.

For this activity, it is your turn to design a new flag. Use any drawing program that you wish. I would recommend the Flag Designer website. It allows you to create a flag in three easy steps. When you are done, take a screenshot of your flag and post it on your blog.

My Designed Flag:

Below as you can see is the flag that I originally created/designed.

The Black colored strip at the top represents the national popular sport Rugby and our national Rugby team, the All Blacks.

The Blue coloured strip represents the beautiful Ocean Sea that our country New Zealand has or in Maori known as Moana.

The Red colored strip at the bottom of the flag represents all the New Zealanders or Kiwi’s as Warriors that we were born Warriors and will live our lives as Warriors.

And lastly the two branches connected in the middle, on the flag represents all the different cultured people that have lived in New Zealand their whole life as Kiwi’s and as a Pacific Islander for example.

But mainly the thing that inspired my designed flag fully, was the people and nature that we were born with, lived with and will die with.
