Day 5:

It’s the big day! You’re about to hop on an airplane and travel to a new country. Curious Kiwi will keep you company on the journey. Unfortunately, Curious Kiwi forgot his book and he is worried that he’ll get bored on the long flight without anything to read. He asks you for some help…

Activity 1
Think about all of the books that you have read this year and recommend one for Curious Kiwi to read. On your blog list the title and author of the book and then provide a short description of it. What is the book about?
Answers:
Title: Tiny Miss Dott and her Dotty Umbrella
Author: Michelle Osment
Description:
This book is about this lady ( Miss Dott ) and her dotty umbrella. The umbrella has travelled to different places because of the rain and when people have taken the umbrella to use. When the umbrella is returned back to the store by a father and his son she leaves the store stepping out into the beautiful shining sun not using the umbrella not once.
Activity 2
Read the following three reviews of books that are really popular right now in Canada. If you had to choose one for Curious Kiwi to read on the plane, which one would you choose? Post the name of the book that you would chose on your blog. Below the title explain why you would choose that book.

Book 1: Catching Fire (The Hunger Games #2) by Suzanne Collins
Against all odds, Katniss has won the Hunger Games. She and fellow District 12 tribute Peeta Mellark are miraculously still alive. Katniss should be relieved, happy even. After all, she has returned to her family and her longtime friend, Gale. Yet nothing is the way Katniss wishes it to be. Gale holds her at an icy distance. Peeta has turned his back on her completely. And there are whispers of a rebellion against the Capitol - a rebellion that Katniss and Peeta may have helped create. Much to her shock, Katniss has fueled an unrest she's afraid she cannot stop. And what scares her even more is that she's not entirely convinced she should try. As time draws near for Katniss and Peeta to visit the districts on the Capitol's cruel Victory Tour, the stakes are higher than ever. If they can't prove, without a shadow of a doubt, that they are lost in their love for each other, the consequences will be horrifying.

Book 2: Matilda by Roald Dahl
Matilda is a sweet, exceptional young girl, but her parents think she's just a nuisance. She expects school to be different but there she has to face Miss Trunchbull, a kid-hating terror of a headmistress. When Matilda is attacked by the Trunchbull she suddenly discovers she has a remarkable power with which to fight back. It'll take a superhuman genius to give Miss Trunchbull what she deserves and Matilda may be just the one to do it!

Book 3: Diary of a Wimpy Kid – The Ugly Truth
Greg Heffley has always been in a hurry to grow up. But is getting older really all it’s cracked up to be? Greg suddenly finds himself dealing with the pressures of boy-girl parties, increased responsibilities, and even the awkward changes that come with getting older—all without his best friend, Rowley, at his side. Can Greg make it through on his own? Or will he have to face the “ugly truth.”
Answers:
Matilda by Roald Dahl
I would choose this book because just a little young girl is not being accepted and loved by her parents but has the power to fight back at the school teacher Miss Trunchbull. This book I would also choose because of the revenge Matilda could give to Miss Trunchbull and giving her what she has deserved from just a young girl.

Before you start packing your suitcase you will want to create a list of everything that you will need to bring with you. Most airlines let you bring one big suitcase with you so you’ll have to think carefully about what you want to bring…

On your blog site, post a list of everything that you need to pack for your trip. Put a star (*) beside the 5 items that you think are the most important.
The 5 important items I will need to take:
* A tooth brush and tooth paste
* A hair brush and hair ties
* Clothing ( Warm clothing and shoes )
* Maps
* Electronic device

Day 3: Buying a ticket

21/12/2016.
Day 3:
Now that you have chosen your country it is time to start planning your trip. One of the first things you will need to do is to buy an airplane ticket. There are many, many airlines that fly around the world. Some of the most common are:
Air Canada Air New Zealand
C:\Users\rwil313\Desktop\Air Canada logo.png                                C:\Users\rwil313\Desktop\Air New Zealand image.png

Emirates             Air Asia
C:\Users\rwil313\Desktop\Emirates logo.png                 C:\Users\rwil313\Desktop\Air Asia logo.png

When you get onto the airplane you will be asked to watch a short safety video that tells you how to stay safe when flying in a plane. Arguably, the best aiplane safety videos are produced by Air New Zealand.

Activity 1
Watch both of the current Air New Zealand safety videos. The first is a video that stars the All Blacks. The second is a video that stars Rhys Darby and Anna Faris (Hollywood actress).  Links for the videos are found below:
Air New Zealand Men In Black’ video
Air New ZealandSafety in Hollywood’ video
Once you have finished watching the videos, go to your blog and list three things that you need to do to stay safe on an airplane.
Answers:
1: One thing that you need to do to stay safe on an airplane is that when you are seated make sure that your seat belt is fastened.
2: A second thing you need to do to keep safe while on an airplane is that if you have loose items store them under the seat in front of you or the locker above you.
3: One last thing to keep safe is that when a life jacket is needed there will be one stored beneath your seat, when gotten out tighten the belt and when exiting plane pull the red tab, for more expansion blow into the red mouth piece.
Activity 2
Imagine that you have been asked to create your very own airline. What would you call it? Design a simple logo for your airline and post it on your blog. You must include a short explanation of your logo below the picture.
Logo:
Explanation:
This is the airline I have created it is called Air Kiwi. I have put a picture if a kiwi on my logo so people will always see a friendly kiwi when flying with this aircraft and can feel comfortable as well as feeling safe. The kiwi represents New Zealand and that people will want to visit and travel to New Zealand more.

Day 2: Learning the basics

21/12/2016.
Day 2
Now that you have chosen your country, it is time to decide where, within your country, you would like to visit. Many tourists will choose to visit the capital city of a country. It is often quite large and full of interesting things to see and do.
Activity 1
Before you go overseas it will be important that you learn a bit about the capital city of your country. Hop online and find out about the capital city of your country. Use this information to complete the five sentences below:
Answers:
  1. The name of the capital city is Ottawa.
  2. The population of the capital city (Ottawa) is 883,391.
  3. In January, the weather in the capital city (Ottawa) is usually about mostly very cold but sometimes sunny when the weather is cold the average temperature is from -6 C to -15 C.
  4. The capital city (Ottawa) is located in the northern (northern, southern, middle) part of the country.
  5. The languages most commonly spoken in the capital city (Ottawa) are English and French.

Activity 2
One of the most popular activities in Madrid, the capital city of Spain, is called ‘Bullfighting.’ It has been a part of Spanish culture for centuries. In bullfighting people called ‘toreros and ‘matadors’ fight with a live bull. The toreros do most of the fighting and, ultimately, capture the bull and tie it up. Once it has been caught, the matador joins the fight and kills the bull. Although most toreros and matadors are men, there are some women who also compete in the sport.
Not everyone supports bullfighting in Spain. In fact, about 30% of the population want it to be banned (stopped) completely. What do you think? On your blog tell us whether or not you think that bullfighting should be banned in Spain. Please provide, at least, two reasons to support your decision.
Answers:
C:\Users\rwil313\Desktop\Bullfighting picture.jpg
I think that the sport bullfighting should not be banned because it has been a part of the Spanish culture for centuries. This sport should also not be stopped because only 30% of the population want it to be banned and the other part of the population is actually a bigger percentage of keeping the bullfighting sport alive.

Bonus activity
Wellington is the capital city of New Zealand. Have you been to Wellington? If so, please tell us about two things that you did when you were in Wellington.
If you haven’t had the opportunity to go to Wellington, follow the link to learn more about this very cool city: Discover Wellington.
On your blog, tell us what two things you would like to do if you had the chance to visit Wellington. Would you go to the botanical gardens or visit the Beehive? Perhaps you would prefer to go shopping on Cuba Street or go out for dinner on Quay Street…

Answers:
I have been to Wellington, the capital of New Zealand and one of the things that I did when I was in Wellington was that I went to explore the museum with my aunty and cousins. Another thing that I had done while I was in Wellington was that I had gone to the Weta cave where I could see some of the Hobbit characters just like Smeagol.

Day 1: Choosing a Destination

17/12/2016.
Day 1:
Activity 1

After you have read the quick facts about each place you must choose ONE country that you would like to ‘visit.’ On your blog post the name of the country and tell us why you have chosen to visit it. Please give, at least, two reasons for choosing the country.
Canada: One reason that I have chosen Canada to visit is because there are some sports that I would like to try and experience. Another reason that I had chosen this country to visit is that there are gardens that you can go to look around at and there are also different places that you can go to and experience.

Activity 2
On Google, research the country that you have chosen to visit and write, in your own words, three interesting facts about that country. They must be facts that weren’t already provided on the World Map.
3 interesting facts about Canada:
1st fact: In Canada they have over 30000 lakes.
2nd fact: The name Canada comes from the word Kanata which means settlement or village in the language of the indigenous St Lawrence Iroquoians.
3rd fact: In Canada it is rich in resources like zinc, nickel, lead and one of the known riches gold.

Bonus Activity
Write a letter to a friend or family member to tell them that you are going to visit your country of choice. In your letter, please tell them where you are going, why you have decided to go to the particular country and how long you will be away. Feel free to invite them to join you, if you’d like!

Sunday 18 December 2016

Dear Aaliyah,
In this letter I want to tell you about where I will be going to travel and it's Canada. I have noticed that the further north you go the more colder it will get, but I will not let the temperature stop me from having fun.   So I have decided to go to Canada because of all the places you could go especially the Niagara falls and sight seeing. I will just be away for this week so no worries I will be seeing you next week, Merry Christmas and take care.
