Day 7: Creating a game for Paralympic’s.

Bonus Day 7: Creating a game for Paralympic’s.

Bonus: This year two new sports are being added to the Paralympic Games. They are canoeing and triathlon. In the triathlon the athletes must swim 750 metres, cycle for 20 kilometres, and then run for 5 kilometres. Paralympic athletes may also compete in other sports including archery, boccia, football, judo, powerlifting, rowing, sailing, swimming, sitting volleyball, track cycling, wheelchair basketball, wheelchair fencing, wheelchair rugby, and wheelchair tennis. To learn more about all of the Paralympic sports, please visit the 2016 Paralympic Games website.

Imagine that you are on the Paralympic Committee and you have been asked to create one new sport to add to the competition for this year. Use your awesome imagination to design a brand new Paralympic sport. Please remember that some of the athletes will not be able to walk or run and others may be blind or deaf. On your blog, please write:

  1. The name of your sport,
  2. A brief description of how you play the sport, and
  3. Three rules for the sport

The name of the sport that I would add to the competition would be called Guess the Word, the point of the game is to guess what the word is.
1. There is nothing that is needed except for your hands, fingers and a puzzle board with words punched in them.

2. As you read the words out loud someone will be counting it down.

3. If you can get over 25 words correct before the timer goes off you’ll be in luck.

Day 7: Ways to help raise money for the New Zealand Paralympic team.

Activity 2 Day 7: Ways to help raise money for the New Zealand Paralympic team.

Activity 2: It is very expensive for each of the Paralympic athletes to fly from New Zealand to Rio de Janeiro to compete.  Most athletes have to raise money in order to make the money that they need to go on the big trip. Recently, Harvey Norman announced that they will be helping to raise funds for the New Zealand Paralympic team. What could you do to help raise funds to support our amazing Paralympic athletes? On your blog, list 2 different ways in which you, your family or friends could raise money to
support the athletes.

Two different ways I could do to fundraise for the New Zealand Paralympic team with the help of my friends and family is that we could sell cupcakes outside the house and we could make a lemonade stand for people to come and buy some.

Day 7: Spirit in Motion- Paralympic Games

Activity 1 Day 7: Spirit in Motion- Paralympic Games

Activity 1: At the first ever Paralympic Games in Rome, the athletes competed in eight sports. Cycling was one of them. For the cycling event, two people compete together as a team – one of the people has a disability and the other does not. Here is a picture of a para-cycling team from New Zealand:
C:\Users\rwil313\Desktop\Paraclycing team (NZ).jpg
At the moment the most famous para-cycling team in New Zealand is comprised of two female athletes – Emma Foy and Laura Thompson. Emma is blind but Laura is not. Together they work as an amazing team. Imagine that you were asked to compete in a tandem cycling event and you had to choose one person to compete with. Who would it be? On your blog, tell us who you would compete with and why. If it was me, I would choose my son, Aronui because he’s pretty fast and very funny. He would make me laugh as we biked along and would be very supportive and encouraging! I know that I could trust him to be a good teammate. Who would you choose?

If I was asked to compete in a tandem cycling event and had to choose one person to compete with I would choose to compete with my cousin Alilia because she would be very helpful and she also is a great person to team up with.

Day 6: Ending of a short story

Bonus Day 6: Ending of a short story

Bonus: Imagine that you are sitting in the crowd at the opening ceremonies for the Rio Olympics this August. The ceremony has just started and all of the Olympic athletes are parading around the stadium in their uniforms when all of a sudden…

The ceremony has just started and all of the Olympic athletes are parading around the stadium in their uniforms when all of a sudden…

One of the Olympic athlete’s sneeze make the crowd silent as they cheered. The next thing you know is that the athlete is Valerie Adams as she calls and says “ C’mon what’s the hold up just a sneeze carry on”. When she says her last words everybody starts laughing and bursts into tears of joy. As soon as everybody stop’s Valerie Adams shouts carry on and all the trumpets and bands start parading once again with Valerie with smile on her face.

Day 6: Formal speeches, Parades of athletes also Songs and dances

Activity 2 Day 6: Formal speeches, Parades of athletes also Songs and dances

Who I think should be in the opening ceremony is Maria Tutaia because she has been playing for the Auckland Diamonds netball team, representing New Zealand. Also in the ANZ Championship she was the only and first player to be sent off during the game against the Swift’s.

Activity 2: The opening ceremonies for every Olympic Games must include formal speeches, a parade of athletes, songs and dances that showcase the culture of the host country. Follow this link to watch the highlights of opening ceremonies for the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, England.

In the opening ceremony for the London Olympics there were a number of famous English people including the Queen, the Spice Girls, David Bowie, U2, the Rolling Stones and Paul McCartney. Imagine that we were going to host the Olympics here in New Zealand in 2024 and you were invited to be on the committee that decides who is invited to participate in the opening ceremonies. As a member of the group you must choose one of the following people to be in the opening ceremony: Richie McCaw (rugby player), Lorde (singer), Kane Williamson (cricket player), Maria Tutaia (netball player), John Key (prime minister of New Zealand) or Shaun Johnson (league player). On your blog, tell us who you think is the best person to choose and explain why you think that they are the best choice!

Day 6: Entertaining the Crowd

Activity 1 Day 6: Entertaining the Crowd
Activity 1: For all Olympic opening and closing ceremonies, the athletes from each country must wear a special uniform. The uniforms change each year. Look at the 3 pictures posted below. They are pictures of the uniforms that our New Zealand Olympic teams wore in 2012, 2008 and 2004. For this activity, you are asked to rank the uniforms from best (#1) to worst (#3). On your blog post your rankings and provide a brief explanation of why you ranked the uniforms in that order.

I put 3 of the special uniform’s in this order because I thought that the first uniform really looks neat and also looked really nice with the Olympic logo. Then I put the second next uniform as second because I like how it as the big fern on it and lastly I thought that the 2008 Olympic uniform was ok but had too much.

# 2 New Zealand Olympic Team Uniform – Athens Olympics 2004

Bonus: Who inspires me?

Bonus Day 5: Who inspires me?

Bonus:  Jesse Owens was a black American athlete who participated in the 1936 Olympics in Berlin, Germany. He is considered to be one of the bravest and most inspirational Olympic athletes because he competed at a time when the leader of Germany (Adolf Hitler) did not want black men competing at the Olympic Games. Here is a picture of Jesse from the 1930's.
Can you think of someone in your own life that inspires you? On your blog, tell us who your inspirational person is and why they inspire you.

The person that is my inspires me is my mom because she always encourages me to do something or to try something new even though I don’t want to or know how to do it.

Day 5: Five questions that I would ask Marjorie Gestring

Activity 2 Day 5: Five questions that I would ask Marjorie Gestring if I was alive in 1936 and interviewed her.
Activity 2:  In 1936, a 13 year old girl named Marjorie Gestring became the youngest person to ever win an Olympic gold medal. She won the gold medal in the springboard diving competition. Imagine that you were alive in 1936 and you had the chance to interview her. On your blog, post five questions that you would like to ask the Olympic champion (if you had the chance to meet her!).

1. What inspired you to do diving?

2. How did you feel after winning an Olympic Gold medal?

3. When did you first start doing diving?

4. Do you feel nervous before diving in?

5. Why did you choose to do the sport diving?

Day 5: Summary about Eddie the Eagle

Activity 1 Day 5: Eddie the Eagle

What this movie is about is that Eddie wants to go to the Olympics but first he has to practice, so all his life he has practiced and practiced then when he gets older he goes to the Winter Games and ski’s  down the hill when suddenly he has an accident and goes to the hospital. When he gets to the hospital and gets better he doesn’t give up he still practices.

Bonus Day 4: My critique about the Be the Inspiration video

Activity Bonus: Day 4

What I liked about the Be the Inspiration video is that I liked how the video had someone talking in the background and that it showed a part of Rio de Janeiro because that’s where the next Olympics will be. What I didn’t like was that the video was made in only some of the parts of the country because it would be better if they shooted a bit of the video with athletes competing in the past Olympics.
I think this video was a  **** = good video.

Day 4: Meeting a real athlete

Activity 2 Day 4: Meeting a real athlete

If I could meet one of these 3 talented athletes I would want to meet Andrea Kilday because it would be very exciting to meet someone that has won a Gold medal and is a female Taekwondo fighter.

What I think about Andrea Kilday is that she has an amazing skill of being a female Taekwondo fighter and is going to be competing in her first Olympic games.

Day 4: # Be the Inspiration

Activity 1 Day 4: # Be the Inspiration

Gemma Flynn:
Sport: Hockey

1. Gemma Flynn the New Zealand hockey player is the youngest and only daughter in her family and is also engaged to the captain of the All Blacks rugby team, Richie McCaw.

2. Gemma Flynn has been competing for the New Zealand women’s national field hockey team, The Black Sticks Women since 2008.

3. Gemma Flynn is also a very fit and fast athlete and is also known as the world’s best.

In this short description about Gemma Flynn I think that she is a very talented person and will have much support in competing in the Olympics.

Day 3: Olympic Sport Photo

Activity 2 Day 3: Olympic Sport Photo
BOXING
This is a photo of me striking a pose as a boxer, I have used my mum’s boxing gloves for my photo.

Day 3: Sport Specifies

Activity 1 Day 3: Sport Specifies

Trampoline Gymnastics

The aim of the game is for the athlete to bounce on a trampoline up to heights of eight metres and while the athlete bounces they start performing acrobatic actions and are rewarded points for difficulty, execution and flight time. Also each competitor does 2 sets of 10 acts and the competitor does single, double or triple somersaults some with and without twists in it.

Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympic Logo

Bonus: Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympic Logo
I designed this logo with a kangaroo because I think that kangaroo’s jump so high and very much that it’s like they are jumping for their dreams.

Day 2: 3 Famous Landmarks in New Zealand

3 Famous Landmarks in New Zealand

1. Rangitoto Island- Rangitoto Island is placed on a volcanic field, there is almost about 48 volcanoes together including some extreme ones like One Tree Hill Rangitoto itself.
It is also a volcanic island in the Hauraki Gulf near Auckland.

2. Lake Taupo- Great Lake Taupo is the greatest freshwater lake and is about the same size of Singapore and is in the Waikato Region, North Island. You can also go fishing and parachuting for a family vacation.

3.  Hot Water Beach- Hot Water Beach is a beach on Mercury Bay by the east coast of Coromandel Peninsula, New Zealand. It is also just 700 meters from one of the top surf beaches on Coromandel. People and families like to spend their holiday time there and explore the great place.

Day 2: Tom and Vinicius find a home

Day 2: Tom and Vinicius find a home - 2016 Olympics in Rio

What I think is happening in the video is that Tom and Vinicius is trying to find a home, then Vinicius and Tom get an idea of making a homes for themselves nearby a tree, suddenly in the middle of the night Tom and Vinicius wake up from their sleep and walk outside and decide to sleep there.

Winter learning- Bonus Activity

Day 1: Bonus

What I think about the rule that women were not allowed to watch or compete in the Olympics is that they should’ve because some women must of had relatives that competed and some women would’ve been very talented and fit to compete.

Winter learning- Activity 2

Day 1: Once upon a time in Olympia

Three interesting facts about Milo of Kroton:

1. The date of Milo of Kroton’s death is unknown

2. Milo of Kroton was a Greek wrestler and had succeeded as a great wrestler.

3. In many stories it tells different things about Milo of Kroton like he was the matter of strength and power.

Winter learning- Activity 1

Day 1: Once upon a time in Olympia

If I lived 2792 years ago I would choose the sport Horse racing.

I would choose horse racing because it would be fun to compete with other competitors and ride on horses while they gallop around the track.
